I am pleased to announce two appointments to the City of Ballarat’s senior leadership team.

Sean Portelli has been appointed Director Corporate Services and Andrew Prestage has been appointed Executive Manager People and Culture. Sean and Andrew begin in their roles effective immediately.

Sean is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants and has had executive experience in the education sector at University College, University of Melbourne, and Salesian College Rupertswood at Sunbury. Sean is familiar with local government. He has worked at the City of Melbourne, and undertaken assignments at Buloke, the Macedon Ranges and Yarriambiack. Sean was appointed as interim Director of Business Services on a short-term basis with the City of Ballarat in June.

Andrew has 25 years’ experience in the Human Resources sector where he has worked for a range of private and public sector organisations, including CenITex, Parks Victoria, the Victorian Auditor General’s Office and Yarra City Council. Andrew began working in the People and Performance team at the City of Ballarat in early 2019 before recently stepping in to the role of Acting Executive Manager People and Culture.

The City of Ballarat received a number of high quality applications for these positions. This recruitment process has been conducted by an independent and reputable recruitment company in line with the City of Ballarat’s Recruitment and Selection Policy.

I would like the Ballarat community to rest assured that Sean and Andrew bring with them a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience that will enable the City of Ballarat to better deliver on Council’s commitments and the community’s expectations.

Sean and Andrew understand and are committed to changing the culture of the City of Ballarat. As members of the leadership team, they have an integral role to play in leading and implementing the Action Plan as a result of the Organisational Governance and Cultural Assessment review, now being conducted by Susan Halliday AM.

Recruitment for the new roles – Director Infrastructure and Environment, Director Community Wellbeing and Director Development and Growth are underway. Further announcements will be made as appointments are finalised.
