The Our Bushland Festival launches this spring with a wonderful program of events for locals and visitors that showcase the natural beauty and amazing ecology of the Cessnock Local Government Area.

The festival is all about celebrating our local bushland and deepening the community’s understanding of the environment.

Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said the festival was a fun family event and a great opportunity to better understand our local natural environment.

“We live in such an ecologically rich and beautiful area,” Mayor Suvaal said.

“The festival is all about engaging our community with the abundant natural world right on our doorstep.

“The more we know about it, the better we appreciate it and the more motivated we become to protect it.”

A festival highlight is sure to be the spotlighting adventure to find nocturnal wildlife on Saturday 10 September 2022. At this event, participants will set out with an ecologist to discover a great variety of wildlife which is generally only seen at night. Registrations are required and can be made on the festival website, www.ourbushland.com

The main festival day is on Sunday 11 September, 9.30am to 3pm, and will include bushwalks with local experts and ecologists, informative talks in the Bushland Marquee, information displays and stalls, artisan and market stalls and food by local producers, as well as live music at the centrally located Poppet Head Park, Kitchener.
