Disturbance charges at Townsville

Townsville police have charged three youths in relation to a disturbance at the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre on Wednesday, March 18.

The incident occurred between 8.45am and 12.50pm and involved five people.

It is alleged a small fire was lit, before the group gained access to a roof.

The roof and ceiling sustained damage and one staff member was struck by a projectile.

Police attended and detectives have now charged two 15-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy.

One 15-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of wilful damage and two counts of endangering property by fire.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of wilful damage and one count of endangering property by fire.

The other 15-year-old boy has been charged with 11 counts of wilful damage, one count of serious assault and two counts of endangering property by fire.

The teenagers are expected to face the Townsville Children’s Court at a later date.

Investigations are continuing.
