DOCTORS CALL ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO CHANGE RIGHT TO DIE LAWS

DRS

“The Australian Doctors Reform Society today calls on the Federal government to change the Federal Right To Die laws that ban doctors using the telephone or internet to discuss Legal Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) with terminally ill patients”said Dr Robert Marr GP and National Vice President Of Australian Doctors Reform Society.

‘Doctors have received reports that terminally ill patients throughout Australia are being denied access to legalised VAD due to the ban on doctors being able to discuss VAD over the phone or internet. This lack of access is mainly a problem for terminally ill patients in rural areas where there are no doctors available or willing to discuss VAD”said Dr Marr

“The Australian Doctors Reform Society welcomes the action of the Queensland government in placing this issue on the agenda of the april meeting of Council of Attorneys General”said Dr Marr

“Now that VAD is legalised in every Australian state it is time the Federal government stopped this unnecessary suffering for terminally ill patients and removed the ban on doctors being able to discuss VAD with terminally ill patients over the phone or internet”said Dr Marr
