One of RSPCA WA’s longest residents has finally found his forever home after 615 long days.
Four-year-old Jacko was adopted today, surrounded by a sea of well-wishers who formed a guard of honour to send him on his start to a new life.
Shelter Coordinator Richelle Beswick said the feeling at the Malaga shelter today was one of elation.
‘We’ve all been so invested in Jacko’s journey that people from all over the site came to say goodbye,’ she said.
‘He’s such a loveable goof ball, smart and handsome too, that it baffled us why he waited so long for his forever home.
‘Jacko has certainly landed on his paws now though – the young couple who adopted him are so loving and caring and fully invested in giving him the best life possible.’
New owners John and Deepti read about Jacko’s plight online and went to the RSPCA the next day to meet him. They said it was love at first sight.
The couple plans to take him on lots of family holiday adventures and let him sleep on their bed.
Jacko’s saga began in the South West in January 2022 when an RSPCA inspector found him in a small wire cage in the backyard of a Bunbury home.
He had a large hunting wound across his right chest, shoulder and leg which had been stapled shut by his owner but was opening and oozing blood.
Jack was seized and his owner prosecuted. Unfortunately, vets were unable to save his front right leg which was amputated.
Richelle said while today was a dream day for Jacko, there are many other animals still waiting for their turn to come.
‘Nala has been with us 294 days and is looking at spending her second summer in the shelter, while Georgina has been waiting 161 days. Both are really special girls with a lot of love to give.’
