Don’t miss out on a festive family favourite this weekend

5 December 2021

‘Tis the season to be jolly, so secure your spot now for Sunday’s Carols by Candlelight and enjoy all the seasonal goodwill and cheer the gathering brings. The annual event unofficially marks the start of the festive season in Darwin, with thousands of people flocking to The Amphitheatre at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens to welcome in the countdown to Christmas Day.

Territorians are used to just turning up for this event, but this year you must book a spot in advance. Gates open at 4.30pm, the concert starts at 6.30pm and there will be a grand fireworks finale before everything concludes at 9pm.

The Northern Territory Government supports Carols by Candlelight through Northern Territory Major Events Company. To secure a place, visit [https://www.darwintickets.com.au]. A fee of $5 is payable for up to five people to attend, with $4 going to Variety the Children’s Charity.

Quotes from Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles:

“Carols by Candlelight is a much-loved event in a stunning location, and the sight of thousands of people joining together to sing and celebrate by candlelight under the stars is truly spectacular.

“The Territory hosts many unique family events and this is one of the most iconic – Carols by Candlelight is almost 50 years old! Events like this that help us all come together are important for our community, even more so after the last two years.

“So bring a rug, your friends and family, and your best singing voice, and enjoy a night under the stars.”

Quotes from Katrina Fong Lim, Chair, Christmas in Darwin Association:

“The City of Darwin Carols by Candlelight is a 47-year-old tradition that sings in the Christmas season each year. We invite the community to attend this very special celebration. Please note, in order to be as COVID safe as possible, bookings are essential.”
