A number of donations and awards were given to the community at the Council meeting on 22 March 2022.

Council gave a donation of $500 to the Assyrian Cultural and Social Youth Association (ACSYA) based in Fairfield and $1500 to Team Tonga Shipping.

The donations will help ACSYA to publish an e-book titled ‘Garments of Assyria’ that will illustrate the rich tapestry of Assyria’s cultural heritage, while the donation to Team Tonga Shipping will help them purchase medical supplies, food and clothing for our Tongan friends recovering from the devastating tsunami in January this year that destroyed many homes, schools, livestock and fisheries destroyed.

Tonga will take years to rebuild and in the meantime the losses take a huge toll both financially and emotionally on our Tongan friends. Not only on those in Tonga but for the many members of their extended families that now call Fairfield City home.

Also at the meeting numerous local residents were presented the Fabulous Fairfield award, which consists of a gift card of their choosing, to the amount of $100, plants from the Fairfield Community Nursery and a framed Certificate of Achievement to recognise their beautiful home gardens that give the neighbourhood residents and passers-by such joy.
