Draft City Car Centre Parking Strategy opens for consultation

The Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has invited the community to have their say on the draft Toowoomba City Centre Car Parking Strategy 2019. Residents can have their say from Monday, 23 September through to 5.00 pm Monday, 7 October by completing an online survey through Council’s yoursay website.

TRC Portfolio Leader for Infrastructure Cr James O’Shea said the strategy would set the vision for parking in the central traffic area for the next 10 years.

“The draft Strategy will support the revitalisation of the Toowoomba CBD and better support local businesses, their staff, residents and visitors to our region,” Cr O’Shea said.

“Council manages a third of the parking choices across the CBD with the private sector providing the majority of car parking options.

“Council recognises the need for accessibility to the CBD businesses and the convenience that comes from being able to park a short distance from the desired destination.

“The survey will ask the community about the value it places on the convenience of inner-city parking.

“It will also ask about the community’s appetite for the use of new parking technologies, including smartphone apps, online tools and real-time parking notifications, signs and maps that inform commuters of the availability of parking spaces.

“The questionnaire will also examine people’s preferences for parking payment options.

“A ‘pop-up’ survey stall that will allow customers and visitors to the area to provide feedback is planned for the week commencing Monday 30 September.

“The feedback collected in the survey will be considered by Council with the final strategy in late 2019.”
