Fairfield City Police have charged a driver after he allegedly attempted to attack officers with a knife after leading police on a pursuit across Sydney’s west this afternoon.
About 2.20pm (Friday 12 June 2026), police were patrolling the Mount Pritchard area, when they attempted to stop a Volkswagen hatchback for a roadside breath test on Meadows Road.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, the driver allegedly stopped due to traffic; however, when police approached the hatchback, it reversed from the scene and drove down Pritchard Street.
The pursuit continued until the car stopped on Meadows Road, where officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command forced entry into the vehicle to arrest the driver.
During the arrest, the driver allegedly attempted to attack officers with a large knife; however, police secured the weapon, and the man was taken into custody.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest; however, did not require hospital treatment.
The driver – a 35-year-old man – was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with:
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
- Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention
- Assault person with intent to resist/prevent apprehension
- Custody of knife in public place
- Goods suspected stolen in/on premises (motor vehicle)
- Possess prohibited drug
The 35-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 6 tomorrow (Saturday 13 June 2026).
