Driver charged after detected at 166kmh in a 100kmh zone – Sandy Flat

A man will face court next month after he was allegedly detected travelling more than 60km above the speed limit in state’s Northern Tablelands.

About 3.10pm yesterday (Tuesday 24 January 2024), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting mobile radar duties on the New England Highway, Sandy Flat, about 20km south of Tenterfield, when they detected a vehicle allegedly travelling at high speed.

The radar check revealed the driver was travelling at 166kmh/ in a designated 100km/h street, and the driver was stopped.

The 21-year-old man returned a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Tenterfield Police Station where he returned an alleged breath analysis reading of 0.085.

The man was charged with exceed speed by more than 45kmh, and mid-range PCA.

He is due to appear in Tenterfield Local Court on Wednesday 14 February 2024.
