A man has been issued a penalty notice after he was detected allegedly travelling at more than twice the speed limit in Sydney’s south-west yesterday.
About 6.20pm (Sunday 14 June 2020), Traffic and Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speed enforcement operations at Prestons, where they detected a Honda Civic allegedly travelling on Jedda Road at a speed of 126km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Police stopped the car and spoke to the driver, a 26-year-old man from Green Valley.
The driver was issued an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. The offence attracts a carried penalty of $2482 and six demerit points.
His licence was also suspended on the spot for six months.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the state’s Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said that it is this sort of behaviour costing lives on NSW roads.
“The man allegedly provided an excuse of trying to get home for a brothers’ birthday won’t wash with police – there are no excuses for such driver behaviour,” A/Commissioner Corboy said.
“We know that speeding, drink or drug driving, not wearing a seat belt or proper helmet, driving fatigued or distracted, are all the leading causes of serious injury and fatal crashes on NSW roads.” A/Commissioner Corboy said.
