Through a variety of scenarios, Driving Policy and Legislation, will help members learn the differences between response codes, when road rule exemptions apply, license requirements, what Standing Orders (SOs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) apply and the reasoning behind them being in place.

Available now on The Learning Hub, CFA Driving Policy and Legislation represents the theory part of the Drive Under Operational Conditions program.

Completing the course is an important first step in driver education particularly for new operational volunteers. It also ensures experienced members are across updates to legislation and process including road rule and license changes.

State Driving Coordinator Commander Glenn Jennings AFSM said CFA was committed to improving driver education and providing a safer environment for drivers.

“History has shown that every person who does a CFA driving course comes away learning something,” Glenn said.

“The knowledge you gain from CFA Driving Policy and Legislation will not only help you to safely drive CFA vehicles, it will also assist you in driving your personal vehicle – therefore providing a safer driving environment for yourself, your fellow brigade members and your family and friends.

“I encourage all members to complete this vital training – better understanding of the policy and legislative requirements for driving CFA vehicles will translate to better safety on our roads in general.”

Like all digital learning courses, this course is adaptive, meaning members can test their knowledge in a pre-assessment first. If members get a score of 100 per cent in the pre-assessment, they can bypass the learning and move on to the next module.

“Be warned – this course is tough, and requires a 100 per cent pass mark,” Glenn said.

“However, you can refer to the Requirements for Driving CFA Vehicles booklet to help with the assessment.

“You’ll have three attempts in each module. If you don’t get through, don’t despair, you will be quickly signed up for another attempt at the course.”

CFA Driving Policy and Legislation will be available as a face-to-face classroom course when in-person training is able to be held.

This digital learning course is funded under the State Government’s $60M investment in the Victorian Fire Services, as part of the 2017 Fire Services Statement.
