Drug trafficking extradition, Gold Coast

Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) flew to Sydney earlier this week and successfully applied for the extradition of a 45-year-old man to face drug trafficking charges.

It will be alleged the offence, identified during Operation Lima Versatile, occurred on the Gold Coast between 2014 and 2015 and involved the commercial trafficking of methylamphetamine (Ice).

The man had been in custody in New South Wales on unrelated charges and was due for release into the community.

The 45-year-old Gold Coast man is expected to be returned to Queensland this afternoon.

He will then be taken to Southport Watch House where he is expected to be charged with drug offences.

Detective Inspector Glen Donaldson of the MOCS praised the dedication of all officers involved

“This has been a protracted and exhaustive investigation and highlights the tenacity of detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad to target serious and organised crime on the Gold Coast,” Detective Inspector Donaldson said.

“Dangerous drugs such as ice cause significant harm within our community.

“We encourage members of the public to contact police and help us stop crime and make the community safer”.
