Drugs, alcohol seized – West Arnhem Region

Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of cannabis and alcohol near the community of Wadeye, which is a general restricted area.

Following reports from members of the community and enquiries by police, a 39-year-old male was identified as allegedly selling large amounts of liquor and cannabis in the town.

Further information from the community helped locate the Timber Creek local at an outstation near Wadeye where there was also a quantity of alcohol, cash, a number of deal bags and more than 360g of cannabis.

“We’d like to thank the community for their active involvement and cooperation in this matter,” Acting Senior Sergeant David Young said.

“Drugs and alcohol destroy our communities and our loved ones’ lives.

“Bringing alcohol into dry communities and liquor restricted areas can attract fines of up to $500 and there are heavy penalties associated with drug dealing.”

The items located at the property were seized as part of the investigation. The liquor was destroyed.

The 39-year-old man has been issued with a notice to appear at Wadeye Local Court on 12 January, 2019.

“It’s good to see that the message about the impact of harmful substances is getting through to people,” Acting Senior Sergeant Young said.

“We will continue to conduct patrols and target those who deal in illicit substances and are responsible for the negative effects these have on our community.”

Anyone with information about illicit substances being transported to communities or the secondary supply of alcohol can call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to anonymously Dob in a Dealer.
