The City of Canada Bay has launched a major package of improvements for Drummoyne to address local traffic and access challenges, improve pedestrian safety and create better public spaces.
Following the opening of the NSW Government’s Rozelle Interchange, Drummoyne has experienced increased congestion and pressure on local residential streets, including rat-running, pedestrian safety concerns and impacts on the local business precinct.
Over the past two years, Council has worked closely with residents, local businesses and community advocates to identify and advocate for practical improvements for the area.
City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said the Drummoyne Precinct Upgrades: Safer Streets and Better Places program was an important step forward for the community.
“People in Drummoyne have been telling us clearly about the impacts they have experienced since the Rozelle Interchange opened,” Mayor Megna said.
“We have listened, we have advocated strongly on behalf of our community and we are now in a position to get on with delivering improvements.”
“This is about making our local streets safer, improving access and traffic movement, and creating a better and more welcoming Drummoyne town centre.”
Council has secured $4.1 million from the NSW Government for local traffic and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, while the City of Canada Bay has allocated a further $1.9 million in its 2026-27 Budget for local amenity and road and pedestrian safety measures.
Council has also secured an additional $1 million through the NSW Government’s Safer Cities: Her Way program to improve walking connections along Victoria Road and Formosa Street through a co-design process with the community.
The combined work will improve safety on local streets and deliver better pedestrian connections and footpaths, create more welcoming public spaces and support greater activity around local shops, restaurants and businesses.
Mayor Megna said supporting the Drummoyne business community would be an important part of the program.
“Drummoyne has a fantastic local business community and we want our town centre to be somewhere people want to visit, spend time and support local,” Mayor Megna said.
“I want to acknowledge the Drummoyne Business Chamber for its ongoing advocacy and the important role it plays in representing and supporting businesses across the precinct.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Chamber, residents, businesses and the wider community as these projects are delivered.”
