A man has been charged with drink driving after allegedly crashing during a pursuit with police at Zetland overnight.
Just before 10pm (Saturday 4 April 2020), officers from South Sydney Police Area Command were patrolling Zetland, when they attempted to stop a Mercedes on Geddes Avenue, after it allegedly disobeyed a red traffic light at the intersection of Paul Street.
The Mercedes failed to stop and turned left on to Botany Road, again disobeying a red traffic light.
A pursuit was initiated, travelling south on Botany Road before turning left into Epson Street, Rosebery, where the Mercedes lost control, mounted the kerb and collided with a power pole.
The driver and passenger were uninjured and got out of the vehicle. The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test and returned a positive result.
The 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was subjected to breath analysis, allegedly returning a reading of 0.101.
He was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, and drive with middle range PCA and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 22 June 2020.
The man’s licence was also suspended.
