A driver was fined for having seven unrestrained passengers, including six children, in her car at Modbury this afternoon.
A Road Policing officer spotted the SUV travelling along Smart Road, Modbury about 3.20pm and pulled it over.
The driver, a 69-year-old Newton woman, and her front adult passenger were both wearing seatbelts – but the six children under 16 and another adult passenger were unrestrained in the back. The number of passengers also exceeded the vehicle’s capacity by one.
The driver was issued with an expiation notice totalling $950 and eight demerit points for the unrestrained passengers, and the adult passenger was fined $441 and three demerit points for not wearing their seatbelt.
Police are undertaking Operation High Impact Fatal Five this month, targeting people committing offences against the Fatal Five which include drink or drug driving, speeding, distraction offences, seatbelts and dangerous road users, with the aim of stopping people being killed on our road through poor choices.
