DVA health cards – a new look with same benefits

As part of the Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant (the Covenant), which “acknowledges the unique nature of military service and the contribution of veterans and their families”, Department of Veterans’ Affairs health cards are getting a makeover.

For those unfamiliar with the Covenant, it is intended to “provide opportunities for Australians to identify veterans when they are not in uniform or wearing their medals and offer respect to them and their family.”

Benefits will remain unchanged for card holders as will the exiting Gold, White and Orange colouring scheme.

The way dentists will interact with the DVA program will also remain unaltered.

“… Current service provision and processing will remain unchanged. There are no changes to DVA client health entitlements or arrangements for health providers who treat DVA clients, including the Provider Notes rules on advertising and promotional activity.”

The replacement of the cards will happen on a phased basis so dentists can expect to see a mix of old and new card designs.
