Earth Day 2024 “Planet Vs. Plastic”: Bayside

As Earth Day 2024 approaches, Bayside Council is proud to promote this year’s theme “Planet vs. Plastics” as this powerful campaign aims to tackle one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time: plastic pollution. We are rallying our community to take action and make a difference.

Why Plastic Pollution Matters:

Plastic pollution poses a serious threat to our environment, wildlife, and human health. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans, rivers, and landfills, causing irreversible harm to ecosystems and marine life. From plastic bags to containers and bottles, single-use plastics are particularly problematic, as they take centuries to decompose and often break down into microplastics, further contaminating our environment.

The Time for Action is Now:

By reducing our reliance on single-use plastics and embracing sustainable alternatives, we can all take a leap forward in creating a future that endeavours to mitigate excessive and unnecessary waste, helping to protect the environment, ourselves and our communities.

Tips for Reducing Single-Use Plastics:

Say No to Plastic Bags: Invest in reusable shopping bags and take them with you whenever you go grocery shopping or run errands. Keep a few handy in your car or purse to avoid the need for plastic bags altogether.

Choose Reusable Bottles: Ditch disposable plastic water bottles and opt for a reusable water bottle instead. There are plenty of stylish and durable options available, perfect for staying hydrated on the go.

Be Mindful of Packaging: When shopping for groceries and other products, choose items with minimal or sustainable packaging whenever possible. Look for bulk options or products packaged in glass, paper, or other recyclable materials.

Join the Movement:

Join the Earth Day movement to take a stand against plastic pollution and embrace sustainable solutions. Whether you implement one tip or all of them, you’ll be making a positive impact on the planet.
