As part of the ongoing upgrades, the Eastern Freeway will be closed between Chandler Highway and Tram Road from 10 pm Friday 11 September to 5 am Monday 14 September 2026.
This will allow NEL teams to:
- undertake major pavement works
- build new freeway lanes and new noise walls
- instal new on-road technology
- and move barriers to create space for new work areas.
Thompsons Road will also reopen to traffic once these weekend works are complete.
What to expect:
Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected during peak travel times. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the area where possible.
During these closures, NELP will implement a range of measures to manage traffic flow and ease congestion on detour routes, including:
- closing some freeway ramps and banning some right-hand turns
- installing no stopping signs on major roads
- monitoring and adjusting traffic signals where needed.
