A record $6,148,496 was raised during last Thursday’s, Channel Nine AFL Grand Final Footy Show Telethon, making it the most successful My Room Children’s Cancer Charity Telethon to date.
The historic result was made possible through the collective generosity of donors, partners and supporters. Among them was The Lott by Tatts, which contributed $100,000 and this year celebrates eight years of supporting My Room and its mission to improve outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer.
The funds will help My Room continue its vital work supporting groundbreaking childhood cancer research, clinical care and family support programs, bringing hope to thousands of children and families across Australia.
For more than 25 years, My Room has worked tirelessly to fund innovative research and improve access to treatment and care, with the ultimate goal of achieving a 100 per cent cure rate for childhood cancer.
Senior Community Partnerships Manager, Liz McPherson, said the record-breaking total was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when communities rally behind an important cause.
“Every dollar raised represents more opportunities for children and families to access the support and care they need, while helping researchers move closer to breakthroughs that can change lives,” Liz said.
“We’re incredibly proud to have supported My Room for the past eight years and to see the impact of their work continue to grow. This record result reflects the passion and commitment of everyone who believes that every child deserves the best possible chance at a healthy future.”
My Room CEO Margaret Zita OAM said the Telethon result would help accelerate the charity’s impact.
“To surpass six million dollars and achieve our biggest Telethon result ever is simply extraordinary,” Margaret said.
“These funds will help us continue investing in world-class research, supporting families through treatment and working towards a future where no child loses their life to cancer. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this milestone possible.”
While the fundraising milestone captured headlines, its lasting impact will be seen in the lives it helps change through improved treatments, breakthrough research and vital support for children and families facing childhood cancer.
