Electoral structure review of Mornington Peninsula Shire

Electoral Structure Review

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is currently reviewing the electoral structure of Mornington Peninsula Shire and is seeking feedback from our community.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is being reviewed by an electoral representation advisory panel, supported by VEC. The panel will consider:

  • the appropriate number of Councillors and wards for the Council
  • ward boundary locations
  • ward names.

The panel will consider the requirements of the law to propose models for the council’s structure in a preliminary report. Our community can share their views on this report and give feedback on which model they think would best serve our community.

The preliminary report is released and response submissions for the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council review open on Wednesday 25 October and close at 5pm on Wednesday 15 November.

At the end of the review, the panel will make a final recommendation to the Minister for Local Government. Any change to the electoral structure for Mornington Peninsula Shire following this review is expected to apply at the next local council elections, to be held Spring 2024.
