Eligible Cumberland residents finally able to claim Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

Flood and severe weather affected residents in the Cumberland Local Government Area who meet eligibility requirements will now have access to Commonwealth financial assistance from today, the Australian Government has announced.

The Australian Government has now included residents in the Cumberland local government area who have been significantly affected by the recent floods and severe weather, and who meet eligibility requirements, to claim the Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP), a one-off, non-means tested payment of $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child.

Council has been advocating on behalf of Cumberland residents whose homes have been damaged in the recent severe weather to have their claims for financial assistance considered and determined.

“This is a great relief for Cumberland residents. After weeks of calling on the Government to provide our residents with access to the same financial assistance that has been available to our neighbouring local government areas, Cumberland has at last been added to the list of eligible areas.”

“I encourage all residents whose homes have been damaged in the recent severe weather to check their eligibility to claim assistance under this scheme and if eligible, to make a claim.” Mayor Lisa Lake said.
