Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after another man allegedly fell from a vehicle in Box Hill North on Saturday morning.
It is alleged that the man was riding on the roof of a moving car on Harrison Street near Rye Street when he fell, just after 2am.
A 19-year-old Rye man was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police have charged the alleged driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Glen Iris man, with dangerous driving causing serious injury.
He is bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 7 May.
