Georges River Council Supports GambleAware Week

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is backing GambleAware Week 2026, which runs from October 19 to 25. This event aims to raise awareness of gambling harm and spark conversations in the community.

This year, the NSW Government presents the theme, “Now you see it, let’s talk about it.” It encourages everyone to notice signs of gambling harm and to seek support when necessary.

During GambleAware Week, Council is working with local organisations. They aim to inform residents about gambling harm and the support services available.

Visitors to the Hurstville Museum & Gallery can see a display of archival poker machines. GambleAware resources will also be available. Information and resources will also be available at Georges River libraries throughout the week.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said GambleAware Week is a chance to start important talks. It aims to raise awareness about the effects of gambling on individuals, families, and communities.

“Gambling harm can affect anyone, regardless of their age, background or circumstances,” Mayor Borg said.

“GambleAware Week invites us to talk openly. It helps us spot signs of gambling harm and find help.”

“Working with our community partners helps us share information. This way, we can assist people in accessing support and making informed choices.”

Council is teaming up with Advance Diversity Services to plan a community forum. This event will focus on raising awareness about gambling harm.

The forum will host speakers from GambleAware, Mates From Himalayas, and Advance Diversity Services. A person with personal experience will also speak at the event.

The event will conclude with a light lunch and networking opportunity.
