At 1:00am police on patrol observed a shed at the rear of 98 Canning Street fully engulfed in flames. The shed fire spread to the address and engulfed the roof area.
The address is listed with the council for demolition. The address has been used by homeless people in the past and has been set on fire during previous incidents.
Police cordoned off area between Wellington Street and Bathurst Street and preserved the scene.
The fire service attended, and no persons were located inside the premises.
The Tasmania fire service believe the fire to be suspicious and as a result police are remaining on scene for fire investigators to arrive in the morning.
