City of Parramatta will work with local youth to develop a new framework to better engage with 12 to 24 year olds and ensure the next generation’s needs are being met.
The Youth Inclusion Framework will help inform the way Council engages with young people, ensuring young people who live, work, play or study in Parramatta are empowered, included and celebrated.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Cr Pierre Esber said it is important for the area’s local young people to have their voices heard.
“Parramatta is home to a diverse group of young people who have the world at their feet. We want to make sure they can access the education and training for the job they want, as well as any assistance they need as they navigate their path in life,” Cr Esber said.
“Council is dedicated to fostering the future of the next generation by keeping them at the forefront of decisions that have an impact on them and supporting and enhancing Council programs and services.
“A Youth Inclusion Framework will assist us in setting key priorities and action plans as well as consulting with local young people on things that matter to them most.”
Parramatta is currently home to more than 36,000 young people aged 12-24 years which is forecast to almost double to more than 61,000 young people by 2036.
The Youth Inclusion Framework will be developed in consultation with local young people under five key priority areas, including:
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Employment and education
- Environment and climate action (including disaster resilience and recovery)
- Housing security and cost of living pressures
- Equitable access to safe and inclusive services
A draft plan will be considered by Council in late 2024.
