The Finocchiaro CLP Government is supporting Canteen Creek to establish an apprenticeship program to create real pathways to jobs and build long term community capacity.
The Government has handed over the lease to a government housing property this week to the Canteen Creek Owairtilla Aboriginal Corporation to support a trade-qualified worker to live locally, mentor apprentices and help create jobs for four local people.
This is the CLP Government’s Empowering the Bush agenda in action backing communities to make local decisions and deliver practical outcomes.
Delivering on its commitment to empower the bush, the Finocchiaro CLP Government is helping Canteen Creek create local jobs, grow skills and build a stronger future through a new apprenticeship program.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development, Steve Edgington said the CLP Government was working alongside the Canteen Creek community to build local skills and jobs, with a government property handed over this week to support a new apprenticeship program.
“As part of our commitment to empower the bush, we’re backing the vision of the Canteen Creek community by transferring a former government house to the Canteen Creek Owairtilla Aboriginal Corporation. This will support a trade-qualified worker to live locally, mentor apprentices and help create jobs for four local people to do repairs and maintenance of local housing and buildings,” Minister Edgington said.
“In our year of growth, certainty and security, we’re creating more local jobs and helping communities like Canteen Creek build the skills, workforce and capacity they need to shape their own future.”
“This is the CLP Government’s Empowering the Bush agenda in action, backing communities to make local decisions and deliver practical outcomes,” Minister Edgington said.
Canteen Creek, also known as Owairtilla, is an Aboriginal community, located about 183 km southeast of Tennant Creek.
Canteen Creek Owairtilla Aboriginal Corporation chairperson Della Mick thanked the government for the handover of the government property.
“I wish to extend our sincere gratitude for returning the house to our care. Your support empowers us to employ a tradesperson and revitalise the community maintenance program. This gesture strengthens our community and provides new opportunities for local employment and self-sufficiency.”
