Energy company to help families by slashing prices as energy use spikes

Domestic energy usage is spiking as hundreds of thousands of Australians begin working from home during the coronavirus.

One energy company is vowing to play its part in providing cost of living relief to Australians by slashing prices.

Canstar Award winning energy provider, Tango Energy, has made the decision off the back of a torrid start to 2020.

‘We started the year with devastating bushfires and flood engulfing Australia, which was bad enough, and now we’re seeing people’s livelihoods and health being impacted by this just unprecedented event,’ said Domenic Capomolla, CEO of Tango Energy.

‘We realise a lot of Australians are doing it tough and we want to do what we can to ease the burden on households during a very uncertain time.’

At the end of 2019, the Australian Energy Regulator increased wholesale energy prices to cover the cost of infrastructure roll out, which led to retailer energy providers having to pass price increases along to consumers.

Despite this increase, and the extra costs that will be involved in rebuilding infrastructure like poles and wires destroyed by the bushfires, Tango Energy is taking the decision to drop prices.

‘It’s part of being a good corporate citizen. We have significant financial stress and uncertainty impacting businesses and domestic households, and we want to be part of the solution in helping Australians weather this storm,’ said Mr Capomolla.

‘And of course there are other ways to help reduce your energy consumption and bring energy bills down further.

‘Turn off lights if you’re not using them, turn off any old second fridges in the garage, don’t keep appliances on standby, turn them off, and change your heating thermostat,’ said Mr Capomolla.

The price drop will come into effect on 3 April.
