Love living in Wingecarribee Shire? The good news is, residents can expect to enjoy enhanced neighbourhood liveability and economic prosperity through Wingecarribee Shire Council’s draft 2023-2024 Operational Plan. Quality of life is a focus of this future roadmap for our Shire, as emphasis is placed on fostering innovation, job creation, and housing diversity.

Currently on exhibition and open for community input, the document sets out strategic policies and economic development initiatives.

The plan encompasses initiatives that will directly benefit community members, including the preparation of the Bowral South New Living Area Master Plan and Servicing Strategy, aimed at creating a vibrant and inclusive neighbourhood. Residents can also look forward to the development of the Southern Highlands Innovation Park Master Plan which will increase the desirability of the area for industrial investment.

Council would like to remind the community that their input on the draft document is valued.

Executive Manager Strategic Outcomes, Michael Park says, “As we work together to shape the future of our Shire, key initiatives will include the revitalisation of key areas in a way that encourages forward-thinking, creating job opportunities, and preserving our unique heritage.”

With the development of an Integrated Transport Strategy citizens can expect a well-planned and accessible transport system that will enhance economic growth and create social cohesion.

To bolster investment opportunities and support local businesses, WSC will progress an Integrated Action Plan, in tandem with the existing regional Economic Development Strategy, advancing the implementation of recommendations from the Small Business Commissioners report.

Noting the finalisation of the Heritage Study and Planning Proposal, Robertson Place Plan and Bowral Town Centre Master Plan, the historical assets of the region will be safeguarded and enhanced. This preservation effort will not only maintain the region’s identity and character but continue to attract visitors, boost tourism, and stimulate economic activity in our region.

The challenging financial environment has created a need for WSC to review some fee structures and amounts, including updating its fees for planning proposals (rezonings) to reflect the updated planning proposal process, and to be consistent with neighbouring Council rezoning fees.
