Enhanced public cleaning program

The following comments are attributed to Greater
Geelong Director City Services Guy Wilson-Browne:

What
cleaning program is the City undertaking to help prevent the spread of
coronavirus as more people return to public areas following the easing of
COVID-19 restrictions? Is the City further boosting its disinfecting and
cleaning efforts?

We introduced an enhanced cleaning program of high-use public spaces
on 1 April. From 17 May, 40 additional employees funded by the Victorian
Government are also providing extra cleaning and sanitisation measures across
the municipality.

Both programs provide assurance to the community that we are doing all
we can to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). If restrictions are eased on outdoor activities (such as playgrounds,
skate parks, gym equipment) then we will increase our level of service.

What
areas are being/will be targeted by cleaners?

The City’s program has provided extra cleaning and sanitisation
measures in shopping precincts and high-pedestrian areas, including footpaths,
bike racks, bench seats, bus stops and signs.

Will the
City’s bolstered cleaning program remain at a higher level for the foreseeable
future? When does the City expect it may ease this increased sanitation effort?

We have no
plans to reduce the level of service. We will review our provision as restrictions
on activities are eased.
