The McGowan Government has committed $10.5 million to transition 379 Esperance customers from reticulated gas in advance of the closure of the area’s privately-owned gas network.
As part of the State Budget 2022-23, Horizon Power’s Esperance Energy Transition Plan will provide financial support for 258 private residential and 41 business customers to transition to new energy solutions.
Horizon Power has engaged with local tradespeople and developed a streamlined model for residential property owners to replace existing appliances.
The McGowan Government will provide financial support to customers for like-for-like energy efficient electric replacements.
Eighty Department of Communities properties will also be fully electrified, delivering bill savings and reducing carbon emissions and health risks.
Horizon Power is working with the 41 impacted businesses to provide solutions and support to meet their unique needs.
This announcement comes after the State Government worked with the private gas operator to successfully extend the supply of reticulated gas for local customers until March 31, 2023.

“The McGowan Government is ensuring a smooth transition for homes and businesses impacted by the Esperance Gas Distribution Company’s decision to cease operations in the region with this $10.5 million commitment in the 2022-23 State Budget.
“Horizon Power’s Esperance Energy Transition Plan is an important step in securing long-term energy supply to residential customers connected to the reticulated gas network.
“The financial package will ensure they have support to secure appropriate trades and to convert gas appliances.
“The McGowan Government remains committed to ensuring impacted customers have a choice in their new energy solutions and that all transition works are completed by March 31, 2023.”
