Evidence says Burnie Court must stay in CBD

Tasmanian Labor

It is clear the Gutwein Government is taking Braddon for granted with their persistence to push ahead with a plan to move the Burnie Court outside the CBD.

Labor Member for Braddon Anita Dow said not only was the process flawed, but Liberal Member for Braddon Felix Ellis failed to turn up in person to the recent Public Works Committee visit to Burnie.

“It is clear the Liberals simply do not care what the community think about this project,” Ms Dow said.

“Attorney-General Elise Archer appears both complacent and incompetent, with the community overwhelmingly opposed to her plan.

“This process was flawed from the start, with a failure to look for alternatives when the government decided not to proceed with the current site redevelopment.

“And their lack of interest in this project was on full show when local member Felix Ellis failed to turn up in person to the committee’s visit.

“Moving the court outside the CBD lacks the support of the business community, local residents, council and legal professionals – it’s time the Liberals committed to keeping the court in the Burnie CBD.”
