Exhibiting an artful use of rubbish

Preschools, schools and community members have been busy turning trash into treasure for an art to waste competition, with entries now on display in Armidale’s Beardy Street Mall.

waste>art & design celebrates the creativity and resourcefulness of local students and residents and aims to inspire the community to consider the ways unwanted items or ‘waste’ can be reused and recycled.

All the entries are on display from today in the old Shanti shop, on the corner of the Mall Arcade. Members of the public are invited to view the creations on Monday 3 June to Friday 8 June from 10am to 4pm and on Saturday 9 June from 10am to noon.

“We’re inviting visitors to the display to vote for their favourite entry,” Interim Museum Team Leader Hayley Ward.

“Maybe the exhibition will inspire visitors to create their own unique piece of art.”

A People’s Choice winner will be announced at the close of the exhibition.
