Expanding energy-efficient upgrades to ACT public homes

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

Over 5,000 public homes in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) will receive energy-efficient upgrades. This is part of a partnership between the Australian Government and ACT Government.

Social housing properties are among the most energy inefficient in Australia, as most were built before minimum build standards came into effect.

The energy-efficient upgrades will help reduce energy bills for social housing residents and keep their homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

The upgrades are part of the ACT Government’s Home Energy Support: Public Housing Program. The Australian Government contributed $7.2 million to the $35.2 million program.

This investment is part of the $1.7 billion Energy Savings Package announced in the 2023-24 Budget.

$300 million of this package is helping to fund upgrades to 60,000 public homes across Australia.
