The City of Ballarat is about to take the conversation around climate risk to the next level, with an in-depth look at what a proactive position on climate will mean for Ballarat business, using local example McCains.
Sarah Barker, Special Counsel Climate Risk at MinterEllison, is regarded among the world’s leading experts on climate change risk governance, with her expertise being sought after by public and private sector clients across Australasia.
Sarah is credited with bringing a practical, governance-focused perspective to her advice, both through the lens of a corporate lawyer and through her role as a director and advisory board member.
Sarah will address a business forum at the Eureka Centre on 31 March at 5.30pm.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said the event is a clear demonstration of Council’s commitment to the City of Ballarat’s Carbon Neutrality Action Plan 2025, which was adopted by Council in March 2019.
Through the Ballarat Prosperity Framework consultation process, our community told us that the future of Ballarat is based on a strong circular economy.
“Council is committed to providing opportunities to businesses across Ballarat and the region to be informed about their carbon footprint and learn about measures they can implement to have a positive impact on the environment.
“This event will also give business owners and operators across all sectors, small to multinational a practical opportunity to join the conversation.
“This is the level of discussion and engagement with industry that we need at a local, national and international level, so that we understand the impacts and recognise that climate change is a financial risk for business.
“Ms Barker’s experience is this space will be invaluable to those people in the room.
“We’re also thrilled that one of Ballarat’s largest food manufacturers and employers, McCain Foods Ltd, will present its own journey to reducing its environmental impact, providing a local take on an international issue” he said.
