Expressions of interest open for international City of Gastronomy Ambassadors

The City of Greater Bendigo is seeking expressions of interest from chefs, food and beverage producers and industry professionals from the Bendigo region to become a City of Gastronomy Ambassador.

Bendigo’s recent appointment as Australia’s only UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy has promoted the food, beverage and culture from this region to the world and connected Bendigo with 35 other cities that share the same title.

City Director Strategy and Growth Bernie O’Sullivan said the opportunity was open to hospitality, food or produce professionals working in Greater Bendigo and residing in one of the eight connected regional shires that comprise the Bendigo City of Gastronomy greater region.

“Over the next few years, there will be many opportunities for local professionals to be considered as a Bendigo Gastronomy Ambassador, attending international City of Gastronomy forums, conferences and events around the world,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“Successful applicants may be required to speak formally or provide a demonstration at a variety of events, promote our gastronomy related systems within their own area of expertise and bring back new contacts and future opportunities for our region as part of their learning experience.

“Each destination will offer different opportunities. The host country may offer either full or partially subsidised travel costs.”

Any other travel costs not detailed within each invitation (such as visa, insurance and health costs) are expected to be covered by the individual. While the City is facilitating this process, it is not directly funding these opportunities.

Currently there are two international opportunities which have been proposed for the second half of 2020.

A panel of Local Government representatives and industry peers will select the most suitable applicant for the role based on the theme of the event, requirements and availability of applicants.
