Extended police station opening hours delivered

The Marshall Liberal Government is fulfilling its promise to extend the opening hours of police stations at Glenelg, Henley Beach, and Norwood, with the new hours coming into effect tomorrow.

“This is about enhancing community safety and improving the community’s access to police locally, by extending police station opening hours at Glenelg, Henley Beach, and Norwood, after the former Labor government cut them in 2016,” said Deputy Premier Vickie Chapman.

“We made a commitment prior to the election to reverse Labor’s terrible decision to cut the hours of these stations, and I’m very pleased that we are able to deliver on our election commitment, with the extended hours coming into operation tomorrow.

“While Labor closed police stations, slashed the hours of others, and drastically reduced the number of stations open 24-hours, the Marshall Liberal Government is ensuring South Australians get the strong police presence they deserve – which includes a physical shop front beyond daytime hours in these busy entertainment precincts.”

The Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services Corey Wingard said the new hours were made possible by the Marshall Liberal Government’s increased investment, and commitment to better services and community safety.

“The Marshall Liberal Government is making improvements to service delivery and community engagement through these extended hours at Glenelg, Henley Beach and Norwood,” said Minister Wingard.

“We have delivered these extended opening hours by utilising civilians in suburban police stations to free up more police officers for operational duties, which will enable SAPOL to redirect sworn officers to a new rapid response capability.

“This rapid response capability will prevent and respond to terrorism-related incidents, domestic higher risk incidents and allow for the safe management of major events in South Australia.”
