Extortion charges, Gold Coast and Brisbane

Detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group investigating an alleged extortion by members of an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) have charged three men following a number of raids across the Gold Coast and Brisbane yesterday.

Taskforce Maxima staged simultaneous raids throughout the suburbs of Palm Beach, Paradise Point and Hamilton and arrested two OMCG members and an associate.

Police will allege the men threatened the victim with significant violence if a sum of money wasn’t paid.

As a result, a 36-year-old Palm Beach man and OMCG associate, a 34-year-old Paradise Point man and member of the Mongols OMCG and a 38-year-old Hamilton man and member of the Nomads OMCG were each charged with one count of extortion.

Detective Acting Inspector Anthony Bristow from the Organised Crime Gangs Group said this behaviour clearly demonstrates the true nature of these gangs.

“They have used their gang association to standover and intimidate, threatening the victim with violence for money, but also to discourage them from complaining to authority,” said Detective Acting Inspector Bristow.
