A Human Rights Forum, a theatre-style escape room, a Glitz and Glam Gala and the highly anticipated Bring It On! Festival were among the 2023 NSW Youth Week events that saw Fairfield City Council take out ‘Most Innovative Youth Week Program’ at this month’s NSW Local Government Awards.
Year after year Council, together with the Fairfield Youth Advisory Committee, partners, and local young people work hard at delivering a NSW Youth Week program inspired by innovation and originality, and the 2023 program was no exception. Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council should be commended on this accolade.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award, which comes off the back of winning ‘Best Local Youth Week Program’ at the Awards last year,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Every year we see participation in our Youth Week activities grow, owing to the range of events on offer that enable our young people to express their creativity and showcase their skills and talents – and we have the Youth Advisory Committee to thank for that.
“The Committee serves an important function in our City. The perspective, enthusiasm and action that comes from this group is inspiring, advocating for issues that are important to our young people such as mental health, education, employment and social connection.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the Youth Week program partners for their leading role in bringing the projects to life, including Bonnyrigg Youth Collective, St George Community Housing, Community First Step, Fairfield City Museum & Gallery, Fairfield City Open Libraries, PYT Fairfield, STARTTS, and Stockland Wetherill Park. The program would not receive its level of success without their support, for which we are extremely grateful.
