Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash which occurred in Everton Upper this afternoon.
Investigators have been told a car was travelling along Beechworth-Wangaratta Road about 2pm when the driver lost control.
The car left the road and crashed into a tree.
Emergency crews arrived on scene and started treating the female driver and her female passenger.
Unfortunately the driver died at the scene.
The passenger has been transported to hospital for treatment.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
