Federal Government pledges $1M in wake of Cudlee Creek Fire

The Federal Government has announced an immediate base payment of $1 million to the most severely bushfire-impacted councils in the country, including the Adelaide Hills.

Mayor Wisdom has acknowledged that this funding will greatly assist Council in helping our community rebuild and recover from the devastating impact of the Cudlee Creek Fire.

“We appreciate the speed with which the funding will be distributed; three weeks on from the fire we have already incurred considerable costs in responding to the immediate needs of our community,” said Mayor Wisdom.

“The funding will certainly be invaluable as we turn our focus to the recovery process.”

Council is waiting on further detail from Canberra on the funding criteria, but note from the Prime Minister’s announcement that Councils have flexibility to spend the money on what is most important in their communities.

We’re in the recovery phase with the safety of our community a priority, so infrastructure repairs, tree assessment and removal are our current focus. Our elected members and administrators will work together with the Local Recovery Coordinator, Alex Zimmerman, to prioritise actions and initiatives that require funding in the coming weeks.
