Wyndham City Council is bringing together female superstars from across the globe and our own doorstep for a community concert to celebrate International Women’s Day.
As part of Point Cook Pop-up Park on 6th March, the audience will be treated to music from Superjesus frontwoman Sarah McLeod, Golden Guitar finalist Gretta Ziller, hip hop artist Niasha and singer songwriter Paige Spiers.
Winner of the Adelaide Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer Award, Carla Wills, will be the emcee on the night before the music begins.
ARIA-award winner, McLeod, who headlined the famous Australian band Superjesus before they split in 2004, will headline the show with an acoustic performance.
Wyndham City’s Cultural Diversity portfolio holder Cr Henry Barlow said the event was to celebrate women and welcomed men and children to join in the fun.
“This year the theme of International Women’s Day is “An equal world is an enabled world” where we look at gender equality and how it benefits us all,” Cr Barlow said.
“As we enjoy the entertainment by these high-profile stars, we can take time to reflect on women’s achievements and the importance of women in our society.”
“Just bring along your deckchairs and picnic blanket and enjoy the evening of entertainment at Point Cook Pop Up Park.”
The event will also mark the launch of a new community publication Windmill Journal, celebrating local women’s writing.
The event, at Murnong Street, Point Cook, will start at 5pm and go through to 9pm.
