Ferguson’s Bass Highway repair plan? Rocky road

Tasmanian Labor

Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson needs to stop putting patches on patches and actually fix the problem sections of the Bass Highway.

Labor Member for Braddon Shane Broad said the road was in a shocking state, despite Minister Ferguson saying it would be addressed two months ago.

“The Bass Highway is crucial arterial road, yet under this government any sign of rain will cause it to disintegrate,” Dr Broad said.

“We know a large number of people have been forced to pull over to change tyres blown out on the highway and we know it is in dire need of real action.”

Dr Broad said the blame shift between the government and contractors over why the road hasn’t been fixed cannot continue.

“Today in parliament we once again heard from the Minister about how much he cares about the road. Yet two months after we first asked a question, nothing has changed.

“The Minister must take action now. It is not good enough that commuters are being forced to change their tyres and it is not good enough that this road has taken so long to fix.

“Minister Ferguson needs to stop the blame game and fix this road.”
