Festival for youth kicks off this week

Commando courses, skate stars, slime and an outdoor cinema, this year’s Orange City Council Youth Week has it all.

Youth Week kicks off Wednesday with an urban circus, 360 All Stars at Orange Civic Theatre and finishes with a cinema under the stars on Thursday April 18.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said Youth Week was designed and carried out by its Youth Action Council (YAC) with the support from a range of Orange service providers.

“Youth Week is a collaboration from a range of different young people, from different backgrounds, getting together to give the city’s youth a boost,” Cr Kidd said.

“Our Youth Action Council (YAC) is a talented bunch of young people who are working hard at making Orange the best place to grow up.”

Highlights of the week include a trivia night at Orange City Bowling Club, free skateboarding, BMX and scooter workshops, the Fusion Easter Festival on Sunday April 14 and a scavenger hunt at the LiveBetter Community Hub.

Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee Chairperson Stephen Nugent said this year’s Orange Youth Week coincided with the state-wide event.

“This is an opportunity for our city’s young people to show leadership, organise events and express their views and ideas,” Cr Nugent said.

“Anyone aged between 12 and 25 is welcome to join Council’s YAC.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn skills you’ll need throughout your life, make friends and become a leader in your community.

“Give Council a call on 63938000.”
