Filming toolkit for Sutherland Shire locations

Sutherland Shire Council has released a Filming Toolkit to make it easier for filmmakers and photographers to use the local area for their next shoot.

Council receives around 130 requests for filming and photography each year and whether you are filming the next big blockbuster movie or a university project, we welcome all to nominate Sutherland Shire as your location for production.

The toolkit was developed to outline the requirements for using public space in the Sutherland Shire. It aims to help streamline the application process, providing a checklist of requirements that applicants need to consider before filming on Council land including information about parking, traffic, public liability and neighbour notification requirements. It also outlines the application and approval process, including how much notice Council requires and whether fees will be applicable.

Sutherland Shire Council is thoroughly supportive of the Local Government Filming Protocol and endeavours to ensure our area is film friendly, with the toolkit just one way we are improving the process.

We have also created a video, which highlights key locations in the Sutherland Shire and includes feedback from producers.
