The Hon David Littleproud MP
Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia
  • Carbon + Biodiversity (C+B) Pilot round two closes on 3 March 2022.
  • Farmers in six new Natural Resource Management regions have access to this opportunity to have a new income stream.
  • The National Stewardship Trading Platform will make it easier for farmers to plan their projects and also sell biodiversity and carbon outcomes to the private market.
  • Applications for round two of the Carbon + Biodiversity Pilot close on 3 March.

Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud said the pilot is about creating new income streams for farmers who improve biodiversity on their land by establishing new plantings.

“This pilot is a game changer for our farmers by allowing them to create new income from plantings that deliver biodiversity improvements and carbon abatement,” Minister Littleproud said.

“I encourage farmers from eligible regions to apply. Farmers can gain multiple environmental benefits and diversify their income with a Carbon + Biodiversity project.

“Farmers can plan projects and submit their applications through the new National Stewardship Trading Platform. This platform makes it easier for all farmers to plan their projects and sell biodiversity and carbon outcomes to the private market. Farmers could also accept a government offer for the biodiversity and sell carbon to the private market.

“The platform connects farmers with buyers, aiming to kickstart investment in on farm carbon and biodiversity outcomes.

“The pilot is testing protocols for a market mechanism to buy and sell biodiversity services and create a new income for farmers. This is part of the plan to set up a voluntary biodiversity stewardship market underpinned by legislation.

“Interested farmers can contact their local natural resource management organisation to receive support for the application process and establishing a project”.
