Delivery of Aged and Disability Services in the Mildura region will enter a new era from 1 July following transition of Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) services to new providers.

It follows a Mildura Rural City Council decision in May 2022 to transition out of Aged and Disability Services in the wake of significant Aged Care Industry reforms introduced by the Australian Government.

Mildura Mayor Liam Wood said completion of the transition this Friday followed a 12-month process to ensure a smooth transition to new providers for the more than 1,500 customers cared for by Council staff.

As part of this process, Council worked closely with the Australian and Victorian Governments, incoming providers and existing customers throughout this period.

Due to the large number of customers transitioning, those receiving Personal Care and Flexible Respite will be contacted as a priority, followed by those receiving other service types, including Domestic Assistance and Property Maintenance.

Following completion of the transition this Friday, the five new providers announced earlier this year will start delivering services under the new model from 1 July 2023.

The new providers are:

  • LiveBetter Services Limited
  • integratedliving Australia Ltd.
  • Annecto Inc.
  • Sunassist Volunteer Helpers Inc.
  • Mallee Track Health and Community Service

Cr Wood said finalisation of the transition this Friday brought to a conclusion a comprehensive process by Council staff over the past 18 months.

“Our Aged and Disability staff have continued to prioritise the welfare of customers throughout this whole process, ensuring they were kept informed and supported,” the Mayor said.

“At the same time, our staff continued to deliver the same level of service to their valued customers right up until the transition date this Friday.

“It illustrates the incredible passion and dedication our Aged and Disability staff have for their customers, which are traits they’ve illustrated for more than four decades, supporting thousands of local residents during that time.

“I would personally like to thank our staff for their tireless efforts – you’ve not only done our organisation proud, but our entire community.”

As part of the transition process, some customers may not be contacted by their new providers until mid-July.

To prepare for any possible gaps in service provision, Council recommends customers talk to their support network to establish a plan, particularly for Domestic Assistance Services.
