Firearm and drug seizure in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to a number of firearm and drug offences in Alice Springs earlier this week.

On Wednesday, Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch, with assistance from the Dog Operations Unit, Strike Force Viper and general duties, executed a search warrant at a residence on Warburton Street, Alice Springs.

The following items were located:

  • A less than traffickable quantity of schedule 1 dangerous drugs
  • A less than traffickable quantity of schedule 2 dangerous drugs
  • Several unsecured firearms
  • Firearm ammunition
  • Various drug paraphernalia and items indicative of drug supply
  • Fireworks

Of note was that one of the firearms was unsecured and loaded upon police arrival.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with:

  • 1 x Possess less than traffickable quantity schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • 1 x Possess less than traffickable quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 2 x Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
  • 6 x Failure to meet storage requirement

He was bailed to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 3 August 2023.
