Firearm arrest in Yagoona

A man will appear in court today after being charged with possessing a handgun and ammunition at Yagoona overnight.

Shortly after 9.30pm (Thursday 3 January 2019), police were called to Hood Street after reports of a brawl in the area where a firearm was produced.

Police from Bankstown Police Area Command spoke with two men located in a vehicle nearby.

A third man, 39-years-old, left a nearby home and was also spoken to by the officers.

All three men were arrested and conveyed to Bankstown Police Station.

Subsequently police obtained a search warrant which was executed at the home in Hood Street.

Police will allege that during the search they located a black handgun and ammunition within the home.

The 39-year-old man was charged with possess unregistered firearm and possess ammunition without holding a licence.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 4 January 2019).

The two other men were released pending further inquiries into the incident.
